At the North Bay Regional Health Center on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016. Christine (nee Coles) was the beloved wife of the late Michael John Whatmore. Loving sister of Janet Phillips (John) of St. Ives, Cornwall, their children Dr. Mary Phillips M.D. (Dr. Michael Travis) and Tom Phillips (Maria Monan) and Dr. George Coles DVM (Melissa) of Gallatin, Tennessee, and their children Jessica Kennedy (Ryan) and Logan Coles. Also sadly missed by her sister in law Jill Pyke of Camelford, Cornwall, England and their children Mary Jeffrey, Peter (Jill) Pyke and Mark (Judith) Pyke. Christine was born in Bishop Toke, Hampshrine, England on March 7th, 1934. She attended the London School of Economics and Political Science with her future husband, Michael, whom she married in July 1956. In 1957 Michael and Christine emigrated to Quebec living in Noranda and then Hamilton, Ont. from 1959 to 1962. They moved back to England where Michael taught at the Slough Grammar School. Finally in 1962 they returned to Canada settling in North Bay. Christine taught History at Algonquin Composite School and later at West Ferris Secondary School, and retired in 1989. Visitation will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM. Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at St.John the Divine, Anglican Church (301 Main Street East) on Monday, May 23rd at 11:00 am. A Committal of Ashes Service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers donations to St. John the Divine Anglican Church (Operating Fund), Primates World Relief and Development Fund (Anglican Church of Canada at www.pwrdf.org/give), the Canadian Cancer Society or the North Bay and District Humane Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy (Donations can be made at the Martyn Funeral Home, cheques only).
