I have so many wonderful memories of great moments spent with Pépère: birthday dinners at I.P. Looney's (and parting gifts taken from the restaurant), watching Montreal Canadians games in the basement of the family home in Mattawa, Pépère stoking the wood-burning stove, how he loved to laugh and play Cribbage with my Dad, sipping on a Bloody Mary. And the waltz I danced with him as a little girl at a wedding...I felt like I was floating on a cloud. He was such a gentle, generous and loving person. I loved him very much. I will always miss you Pépère.

There were many occasions when Roger and I would sit out on his front porch to enjoy an after dinner drink which was usually one of his legendary Blood Marys. We talked about all sorts of things but our discussion usually turned to politics in which we had a shared interest. I will never forget the municipal campaign in which Roger was elected Mayor of Papineau-Cameron; he was campaigning at a turkey shoot held at his brother Paul's farm. The respectful manner in which he approached electors asking for their support is a lesson in politics which sticks with me to this day.

While having lunch today I thought of one of my favorite memories of Roger. He and I got to share so many excellent meals prepared by my mother in law Evelyn who is surely one of the best cooks in Mattawa! At some point during each of those meals Roger always said " I wonder what Lady Diana is eating tonight!"

In 2005 when I was 19 my mother brought me, my brother Eric and sister Robyn to Mattawa for a visit it was the best day ever because what I remember the most is seeing how happy it made my grandfather when we showed up. I gave him a hug and in that moment a wave of joy came over me , brought tears to my eyes it was something I'd never forget for the rest of my life.

Around 1986 when my son Eric was two we all drove up to Mattawa to visit. Roger and I were outside on a beautiful day enjoying our mutual favorite drink,Bloody Marys. Eric was playing near a big puddle of water beside the carport. All of a sudden Roger called out to Eric telling him to jump in the puddle which is exactly what he did. Roger and Eric both had the biggest smiles on their faces,

Roger was my Father in Law. I knew him to be a very decent human being with a kind heart and a friendly word for all.He has slipped the bonds of earth and as he goes on his heavenly journey there are so many good memories of him to sustain us.He was loved and will be missed.
