I was privileged to become part of Bessie's family through marriage. I have known Bessie for more than 30 years. Bessie did not just talk about family being the most important thing to her, she lived it day in and day out. Loving, nurturing and protecting her family were the values she lived out every day. She also loved to laugh, giggle and tell happy stories; and in the last few days of her life, her family continued living out what she had modelled for us. We spent time with one another, reminiscing, laughing and sharing stories and even a few tears. Bessie's life has been a blessing to those of us who knew her; but even for those of you who never met her and know her only through your relationships with her family, please know that we are the people we are because of the profound impact she had on our lives as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother or mother-in-law. We will miss her.
