On behalf of Craig, myself, and the entire Free The Children family, we offer our deepest condolences in the passing of Kathy. She was a tireless champion for education and her legacy will continue to live on for many generations. We are so grateful and humbled to have had her as a friend and an important part of the Free The Children family, and for that we have been able to achieve for young people thanks to her wonderful support for so many years. I am still in shock about Kathy's passing. I worked closely with Kathy over the last number of years and developed a tremendous respect for her. Agree or disagree with her, you always knew where you stood. No one worked harder for public education than Kathy. She was a veteran Trustee and understood the complexities of education. Outside of family, the NNDSB was her life. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

I was sorry to learn of Kathy's passing and I offer my heartfelt sympathies to her family. I have worked with Kathy on many projects over many years and have always admired her dedication and hard work for the kids, families and the communities that she served. I recall many years ago when we were working on a project together and she brought me a gift at Easter of two of her hand-made chocolate eggs for my young children to enjoy. So kind. She will be missed and remembered.

As I sit in the newsroom writing a tribute piece for Kathy Hewitt I can't help but think of all our conversations. She was always so open and transparent. We trusted each other and I will miss her knowledge and sense of humor. I could call her day or night. She always made time for a quote or two. She will be missed and this is a huge loss for the Near North board and its students.
