Betty Brodhagen posted a condolence

There are many stories that I could share but the last one has the most meaning for me. For a year I worried and prayed that my brother Ken would win his fight. About 2 months before he lost his fight I had a severe stroke but by the grace of god, a great friend and neighbor and the doctors at my local hospital I came through with no sereious side affects. My other brothers wanted to wait to make sure if I was going to be ok before calling Ken with the news. I was so glad that they were able to give him good news. I was in the hospital for a few days but the day after I got home I received a call from Ken. His words where " ARE YOU TRYING TO GET TO THE PEARLY GATES BEFORE ME". We both cracked up laughing over that. I told him NO, but if it would have meant that he could stay here then I would have gladly gone in his place. He told me that it wasn't my time yet but he would be at those gates with both of my sons and with open arms when my time came. He also said, until then I would have 2 angels on my shoulders and one over my head.
It has taken me a year to be able to share this whole story. To the very end he was thinking of someone else instead of himself. You were a great brother and I miss you so much.
Love, Hugs & Kisses

I remember growing up that my dad had a job that took him away from his family a lot. He was always there on the days that I needed him the most. He was there the day that his first grandchild was born. He helped me through that day as it was hard. I remember me saying that I can't do this and him saying to me to think of something that really made me mad. Then andrea was born. The day that my parents introduced me to my husband. If it were not for them and my dad telling me that I should go for it we may not be together. He walked me down the isle on my wedding day. the whole way telling me to breath and smile. It was kinda funny cause not long ago we were walking and I was holding his arm for balance and I said to him " this reminds me of my wedding when you walked me down the isle and you fly was down" I will always remember that day. He was there the day my son was born. When my husband went to tell them that they had a grandson dad says that they already knew cause they heard him yell He had balls from down the hall way. Dad you did everything for your family and everything in life that you said you were going to do. I am proud to call you my dad and I hope I will be like you in many ways.

Dear Judy and Family, Rachelle and I would like to offer our deepest heartfelt condolences on ken’s passing. Ken was a joy to be with, always one of the first to offer his help when he saw we had a project on the go or anyone for that matter. He had a wonderful quirky grin that would always make you smile. It will never be the same without Ken at the campground, but he will always be remembered especially at karaoke nights where he loved to help out at the controls to give us a break. The world and the lives of people that Ken touched is a better place, because Ken was here. You will always be in our thoughts. P.S. Ken, we owe you a karaoke night.

My father was not a constant presense in my early years. He was often on training and missions. My memories of him are snatches of days with long periods of absences. I resented the time he spent away from us and couldn't understand why he spent so much time away from us. When I was 16, he retired from the military and took up long haul truck driving. I joined him on one trip and it changed the way I saw my father and those early years. He had the opportunity to tell my about those years from his perspective. He explained that he felt my mother was able to keep my sister and I safe and well. Their friends and family would help my mother in tough times. Because he felt we were all safe and cared for he could dedicate himself to serving his country. He did not measure that dedication in the awards and metals given to him but in the number of lives he helped save. Since that time, I have aspired to become the kind of person my father was. He has set the bar high for the kind of man I have chosen to be my life partner and the father to my children. I beleive my father is proud of the man I have found. I beleive that he lived by a few basic rules and I now live by those rules. His rules of life are: help your neighbours, conquer your fears and laugh. No matter the cost to himself whether it was time, money or support, he was always willing to help his family, friends or neighbours. He taught me to face my fears. He proved this by facing his fear of heights by making flying his career or jumping off a bridge with an elastic tied to his ankle. And laugh, boy could he laugh. No matter how mad, sad, sick or tired, he could always find something to laugh about. He loved nothing better then making someone smile even if it meant making a fool of himself. I don't think anyone he ever met hasn't smiled or laughed because of him. I beleive that at the end my father had no regrets. His life was full even though it was not long. He did amazing things, met amazing people and surrounded himself with wonderful people. His presence will be missed by everyone. To everyone who has helped my family get through this time, Thank you. Your friendship and love is proof of the kind of man my father was. To Dad, I love you and thank you for being my Daddy!

Believe that your Dad and Grandpa is in a wonderful place smiling down and watching over you. Dear Judy & Family: Saying I'm sorry just doesn't seem like enough. What can I say about Kenny- he was the first person we met when we arrived with out trailer - he was the first person to offer to help us. We will never forget his kindness and his helpfulness.
