I first saw Vince, later in his life, as a fixture at his grandson's high school basketball games. I recognized the sight of Vince working himself over to a seat on the bleachers right down on the floor. It was only when we met later that I understood that he was a uniquely special human being.
I remember my son Joey talking about Spencer's Grandpa who often took them ice-fishing. Over time, Joey talked about him regularly and with growing warmth, sometimes saying "yeah, I like Spencer's Grandpa, he's a nice guy..". I got to meet Vince later when I helped him sell his old Ford pickup and he was a friendly, wonderfully calm and reasonable guy to deal with who seemed to look at life with a wry philosophical outlook.
I was touched by how warmly he spoke of my son, noticing that when Joey's name came up, his voice would get quieter and he would smile, "aww, yeah, Joey's a good guy..." and Vince seemed to feel naturally this way about everyone.
In the short time I knew him, Vince was an inspiration for how to live well and right.

We are so very, very sorry to hear of Vince's passing. He was such a wonderful man to be with as well as being the head of a family that is fabulous.
