tears With the glorious miracle of the birth of a child, we are overwhelmed with a tremendous joy and excitement. We welcome this blessed gift into our lives, a gift of innocence entrusted into our care and we give thanks to the Creator. As we are filled with this joy and celebrate this joyous time, we shed tears of joy. As we shedding tears of joy, our Ancestors who have crossed to the Spirit World are also shedding tears, tears of sorrow, they are mourning, for they have given up an cherished soul to the world knowing the hardships this soul will endure. When the time comes that we lose a loved one, overwhelmed with devastation and sadness our tears are now of great sorrow. But know this… As we shed these tears of great sorrow, are Ancestors are shedding tears as well, but they are the tears of the greatest joy as they welcome home the cherished soul that the Creator blessed us with. “Welcome Home, we missed you, Welcome Home.” perhaps they are not the stars but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pour through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy ~ Inuit Legend

I placed a braid of sweetgrass on your coffin and sat quietly listening to your goodbye. Outside the sky was dark, and I wore dark glasses because it was still too bright. At the graveyard the priest blessed your passing. An Anishnabe Elder appeared, laid down tobacco and spoke in your language. Someone asked me who he was and I answered a part of your life beyound ours. You said you wanted a feast for all your family and friends. My heart split and I dug my fork deep into it and chewed and chewed unable to let go. The old people held my hand and told stories about you as I prayed for rain. ~Ruffo at Geronimo’s grave
