Obituary of Garry Ernest Backer

Garry Backer November 6, 1946 - December 4, 2012 It is with great sadness that the Backer family announces the passing of Garry Backer on Tuesday December 4th, 2012 at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. Garry was in his 66th year and leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Claire (nee Michaud). He was the proud father of Cory (Donna) and Craig (Natasha) and the best "Poppa" who will be sadly missed by his beautiful grandchildren Giulia, Anthony, Carson and Zoe. Survived by his loving mother, Carmen Backer and cherished brother of Diane Golder, Judy Duval (Jean-Luc), Leonard Backer (Nancy) and Dale Jodouin. Also survived by sister-in-law Carrie Backer. Garry was predeceased by his father Harold Backer, brother Robert Backer, brothers- in-law Yvan Michaud, Andy Jodouin, Paul Golder and sister-in-law Lise Michaud. A special son-in-law to Celine “Sa Mere” Michaud and brother-in-law to Regine Bastien (Gary), Sylvie, Martine and Bridgitte. Garry will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Garry will be missed by all his hunting family and friends at the HRV. A Welder by trade, Garry was a man of many skills, whose final calling was a Transport Driver. Always there to lend a hand and give the shirt off his back, Garry never hesitated to help family and friends. He mostly cherished time spent with his family, teasing the girls and playing with his grandchildren. He will be truly missed but his spirit lives on. No visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday December 15, 2012 at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Mattawa at 11:00am. Donations can be made in Garry’s honour to the Scleroderma Society of Canada, Prostate Cancer Canada, or the charity of your choice.
