Obituary of Helen Georgina Stanton
STANTON – Helen Georgina
Helen saved the last waltz for her hubby ‘Hank’ as she passed away on September 26th 2012, on what would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. To her family, she was affectionately known as Granny, Gran-Gran, Gran-Dawg, or Granny-Gas! Helen had an incredible ‘Joie de Vivre’. She was an honest lady of principle that stood up for others. She had a spectacular resume of community involvement including countless volunteer positions. She was a Nipissing School Board secretary, founding member of The Santa Fund, a vibrant Progressive Conservative, a devoted Anglican, a Florida Snowbird and Past Honored Royal Lady of the Order of the Royal Purple. She was an avid golfer, curler, lawn bowler, bridge player, bingo extraordinaire and jive dancer! All her bratty kids are going to miss her so much! She was a loving mother to Rick (Trudy), Sandi (Wayne), Ginny (Davey), Jon (Laura). Gran-Gran to Colleen (Mike), Meaghan (Steve), Lindsay (Nick), Emily (Dom), Natalie and Nicholas (Karine). Great-Gran-Gran to Jack, William, Sam, Cole & Caleb. Sister of late Walter Shields (Phyllis), late Jessie Paddon (Bill), and Elsie Scott (Howard). In keeping with Helen’s wishes cremation has taken place.
Friends may pay their respects at St. John’s Anglican Church, Main St., on Saturday September 29th from
10am-12 noon. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in the sanctuary at 12noon followed by a reception in the church hall. Helen’s ashes will be interred with Hank’s in their family plot in St John’s Anglican Cemetery. A donation to St. John’s Anglican Church or The Santa Fund would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home with online condolences at www.martynfh.com.
