Paul, We were so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was the kindest and most accommodating lady one could ever meet. She was a lovely lady and we shall miss her happy smile. Take care of yourself. We'll be in touch when we are next in North Bay. Love, Diane & Don Ottawa, Ontario

In 2001, my wife Shawna and I moved next door to Dorothy and Paul. Little did we know that the people living in the small house would turn out to be big influences in our lives.
In the small house, I remember Dorothy as the lady that would always stand on the concrete steps and greet us as we got home. She would keep our dog entertained all day when we were at work by throwing food at him over the fence. From day one, Dorothy welcomed us in her life and treated us with respect. I will be forever thankful for her generosity. Dorothy has taught me that there are still truly nice people left in this world. Being a police officer and being faced with negative situations on a regular basis, having Dorothy close by really kept me grounded in terms of my views on humanity. Dorothy was certainly a person that like to give more than receive. She is by far, one of the most giving and accepting persons that I know. She always put herself last and made sure that everyone around her was looked after.
In the new house, I will always remember Dorothy as the fragile lady that would sit on the back deck or the front steps with her dark sunglasses. In the latter years, she carried a cane or a walker. She always made sure that she got to spend time outside everyday. Her welcoming ways were the same in the new house. Even though the house was a little further and it was a little harder to speak between neighbors, Dorothy would call to make sure that we were fine or to see if we needed something. As she was getting older and needed help from people, she continued to demonstrate that her main concern was to help others. Dorothy loved to see children. She would smile when seeing my two daughters play in the space between our houses. Living far away from our families, my wife and I were very lucky to have a grandmother figure next door, especially one as caring as Dot.
Dot, you have lived a great life. You have served your family and neighbors like no one else has. Rest in peace.
Paul: you have been a great influence on me also. You have taught me about life in many ways too. Your quiet demeanor and your dedication to your mother is something that I will always remember.
Dan The grateful neighbor

Joyce and I offer our sincere condolences to Corey , Ryan, Len and family. Knowing how close we have grown to our son in law and grand kids Will, Sean and Sarah, we understand the loss that the boys will sense with Dorothy's passing. Mrs. Petrie's family have all benefited from her pleasant nature and have obviously led their individual lives in like fashion. Corey and Angie, sorry that we could not be home for the celebration of Grandma's life. We are thinking of you and the kids.

Words cannot express how deeply saddened my family is to know that our wonderful, kind, giving, caring, and very special neighbour is no longer with us. Dot was more than just our neighbour...she was the grandma I never had, the most generous and kind soul I have ever known. She was an angel on earth. I will never forget her thoughtfulness, devotion to those around her and especially to her family. I will always hold Dot in my heart and will do my best to strive to more like her. Paul, your mom will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her lifetime and I am a better person for having had the privilege of calling her neighbour, friend, grandma and inspiration. Dan, the girls and I will never forget her. All of our love, Shawna, Dan, Emmerson and Avery Foy
