My husband and I were so saddened of the news that Dick had passed away. He was a loyal friend to my mother Lauretta Frederick. He cooked for her, doled out her daily medications, took her to appointments that we couldn't but most important he cared dearly for her and her for him Because we spent several days every couple of weeks at Mom's we got to Know Dick very well.My husband will miss the crib games {which Dick usually won} and the hockey stories. I was able to get him over for supper nightly but he insisted on loading us up with his cakes and pickles -beet and dill for me and bead and butter for Denis. This honest loving and generous friend will make it into heaven. Faith was important to him and he said he prayed for us every Sunday. My mother misses him since her placement in a home and we will miss him dearly.

My mom Lauretta Frederick moved into a seniors' apartment approximately 8 yrs ago. Soon after her move she told me about a man that lived down the hall from her who was a great gardener & grew the best tomatoes.Over the course of time my mom was now calling the man down the hall by his name and telling me about what great gum drop cakes he made and what great pickles he preserved. Mr.Brooks and my mom became the best of friends and were the best of companions for each other. Unfortunately, my mom developed dementia but Mr.Brooks stayed by mom's side and ensured she took her medications daily and he continued to prepare three course dinners which they enjoyed nightly in his apartment. When I visited my mom yearly we all would get together and have dinners together.I wanted to do the cooking to give him a break but no, Mr.Brooks was adamant to prepare his infamous chicken & dumplings & strawberry rhubarb crisp. Mr. Brooks was so generous & was wanting to send me home to Alberta with his pickles, chutney, Xmas cake & wine. January 2010 I visited mom but my flight was delayed and instead of getting in in the late afternoon, I arrived at midnight.Mr.Brooks had planned for me to buzz him when I arrived so he could open the entrance door to the apartment building. When I arrived to the apartment entrance, Mr.Brooks was sitting in the entrance.Normally he goes to bed at 9:00 p.m. and this was after midnight & he waited in the cold entrance as he was afraid he would fall asleep & he wouldn't hear me buzz his apartment.I was so blessed to have known this great man and speaking for my mom she was doubly blessed. I will miss him dearly. Judy

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to each of my cousins with the loss of Uncle Dick. I looked at the pictures of Uncle Dick's birthday and smiled because I remember how happy he was with his 80th birthday party. He had everyone who loved and cared about him sharing in his special day. I see such a resemblance between both dad and Uncle Dick in the pictures. He is now in heaven with his wife, siblings, mom and dad. I imagine them all gathering together and having one of their music sessions and everyone singing like we enjoyed as a family many years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I share the burden of this great grief. May God bless you and comfort you at this time.

Dear Marcie, Lynn, Rod and Patti, Lots of good memories of my Uncle Dick! One of the worst things about living so far away from "family" is that you can't always be there when you need to be. Thinking of you all with lots of love. Miss you, Lori and family (Los Angeles,California)
