Obituary of Karen Elaine Galt

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Elaine Galt on August 2^nd, 2024, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Karen was born on January 30^th, 1951, to Roy and Mildred Gillott in Kingston ON. She was raised in Napanee where she shared many fond memories. After high school, she graduated from Kingston General Hospital as a registered laboratory technologist. She worked in Kingston and Sarnia for several years until meeting and marrying her husband Eric in 1978. Together they moved and made Mattawa their home. She was a loving and devoted mother to Adam, Nathan and Jennifer and stepmother to Wendy and Derek.

Karen spent many years volunteering at her children’s school, St Albans Church and various community organizations. She worked as an educational assistant and in 2009 she became an ordained minister with the Anglican Church.

Karen was an amazing mother and human being. She embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care of her family, friends and pastoral work. The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to Karen and her grandchildren: Noah, Liam, Eleanor and Barrett were her entire world.

Karen was predeceased by her parents and brother Kevin. She is survived by her sister Diane of Belleville.

The family would like to thank Dr. Williams and the lovely staff at the Mattawa General Hospital for their compassionate and supportive care.

A graveside service will be held at Pinehill Cemetery in Mattawa on August 19, 2024, at 1:00pm.
