Obituary of Nancy Helena Jacko

Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nancy Jacko passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 30, 2022 at the age of 70 years.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Bill, and her dear daughter Hiliary (Mike).  Graggy will so miss her grandchildren, Camdin and Blakeley, the loves of her life.

She is also survived by her brother Ken (Kathleen), and her brother-in-law Bob (Janice).  She will also be missed by her special nieces and nephews Scott, Sarah-Jane, Kory (Tessa), Krysta, and her great nieces and nephew Kassidey, Reilly, and Karson.

Nancy is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. She will be missed dearly by all her family and her many friends with whom she enjoyed being active and travelling.

Nancy was an exceptional person with a strong sense of community and passion for her work in the healthcare field. Her notable professional accomplishments garnered her many impressive honours, including the Influential Women of Northern Ontario Award for the Public Sector in 2011. She was also recognized in 2019 by the Canadian College of Health Leaders of North Eastern Ontario as a Difference Maker in the field of healthcare. Most recently Nancy received the Davedi Order of Merit  for her outstanding contribution to the healthcare field in North Bay.

Nancy proudly served as Chair of the Board of the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit until this past November and was a Governor of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University until her untimely passing.

Nancy always said nursing was the best job in the world as she prepared to celebrate her 50th year in the profession. When she and Bill moved to North Bay in 1980, she began her career at the Civic Hospital and retired after 36 years as VP Planning, Partnership, and Professional Practice and Chief Nursing Executive. She was so very proud of the organization and all the people who worked there.

A special thank you to the nurses and doctors at the NBRHC CCU who made her stay comfortable not only for her, but Bill and Hiliary as well. Thank you to Dr. Fung, Dr. Gagne, Dr. Madden, and Dr. Chirico for your support and guidance during these difficult times.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation or the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Sunday December 11, 2022 at the Davedi Club from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.
