Kenneth Martin Asselstine M.D., F.R.C.S.(C)

Dr. Ken Asselstine passed peacefully, on Tuesday May 10, 2022 at Water’s Edge Care Community in North Bay, in his 92nd year.  Dear husband, for over 66 years, of Mary Jane (Knapp), and loving father to Bill (Branka Milojevic) of Oakville, Kathy Wilcox (Jamie) of North Bay and Peter (Jen Tang) of Etobicoke.  Ken was the very proud “Papa” to grandchildren Jennifer (fiancé Adam Mendler) and Sarah Asselstine, Alex, Hannah and Cameron Wilcox, and Callum and Sophie Asselstine.  Fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Marj Mossman and husband Ron, Mary (Harber) Asselstine, Michelle Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Ken was born in 1931 in Wallaceburg, Ontario to Harriet (Martin) and Richard Asselstine.  He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Else Hamilton and Carol Muffitt.  He began his medical career in the Canadian Artic, followed by a long surgical career in North Bay starting in the early 1960’s.  He served on many Committees over the years, including Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff, until his retirement in 2012.  Ken’s family is grateful for the wonderful care of the medical and support staff at North Bay Regional Health Center and his Water’s Edge “home”.  Cremation has taken place and interment will be at Nipissing Union Cemetery.  A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ken’s memory to the North Bay Regional Health Center or the Salvation Army.  Arrangements with Martyn Funeral Home, North Bay.
