One of my most treasured 'gifts' from John was a conversation I had with him about 15 years ago. He and Penny had invited me for dinner, and were asking about my summer plans. I told them a friend wanted me to walk the mountain trek into Machu Picchu in Peru ... but I was reluctant to commit. John turned himself to face me directly and said to me with some insistence, "Why not go? If I were younger and had that chance," he said, "I'd go in a flash!!" I went home and realizing the wisdom of his words, I decided I would go, ... AND I had one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Thank you John. Rest well, dear friend.
