The Koivisto family sadly announces Brenda’s passing at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie, early Wednesday morning, April 4. Brenda (nee Boyes) died peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 79, following a prolonged struggle with cancer. Her beloved husband Roy Koivisto predeceased her in 2006. They had been married for 46 years. Brenda was the proud and loving mother of Charlene Koivisto – Moreau, and her husband Dennis, of Barrie, and Steven Koivisto and his wife Becky of North Bay. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren Tristan Moreau and Kendal and Keane Koivisto. She will be missed by her sister Roberta Prouting (Jack), of Bobcaygeon, and was predeceased by her brother Keen Boyes (late Jean) and sister Velma Thornton (late Vic). In the early years of their marriage Brenda worked as a teller in a local bank, retiring to raise her children. She loved her family and was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. A member of the Eastern Star, she enjoyed gardening, and watching home decorating shows. Several years after Roy’s death she moved to the ONR Building on Oak Street where she enjoyed the friendship and companionship. A service to celebrate her life will be held in Martyn Funeral Home Chapel, this Sunday, April 8, at 2:00pm, with visitation from 1pm. . Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
