McGIRR, LILLIAN
It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family of Lillian Evelyn McGirr announces her passing on Thursday June 3, 2010 from a short battle with cancer. Left to mourn are her grateful family: her huband of 65 years, Eddie, daughter Sandra (Doug, Aaron and Alanna) son Rob (Liane, Amanda, Steven and Nicholas)and numerous friends. Predeceased by her parents Bob and Amy Birney and step father Les Bryant, her sister Marjorie Wilson and brother Walter V. Birney. Survived by her sister Bernice Summers-Gill of Kelowna, B.C. Lillian was born in Calgary and moved to North Bay in 1945. Lillian was active in the Heart Club, Laurier Avenue United Church and she played bridge weekly. Mom's loving nature touched all who knew her. She made everyone smile and laugh with her jokes and wonderful sense of humour. Even in her last days, she continued to put a smile on our faces with her comments and actions. Family times have always been important to her, whether they involved extended family in North Bay or in Alberta/BC. Family members, especially grandchildren, and close friends were all precious to her. Mom was more than a mother, she was a best friend. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at Laurier Avenue United Church on Monday At 12 pm. Cremation to follow at Forest Lawn Crematorium. If desired donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Laurier Avenue United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
