John Henry Smith John Smith passed away after a short illness at the North Bay Hospital on Friday October 11, 2013 in his 92nd year. John was the loving father of John (wife Barbara) of Oshawa and grandfather to six grandchildren; Kathy, Karen, Kevin, Cindy, Sheila and Shelly. He will be lovingly remembered by his eight great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his wife Joan Elaine (nee Newell) who passed away in 1998 and son Ross Edward (Ted). John was born in Oshawa on May 15, 1922. He was a World War II Veteran and served in Italy, Holland and Germany from 1942-1945. He was an active member of the Canadian Core, Oshawa and Royal Canadian Legion Br. 254, Mattawa. John worked at Houdaille Industries until his retirement in 1975 before moving to the Mattawa area with Joan. Visitation for John was held at the Martyn and Sloan "Mattawa Chapel" on Friday, October 18th from 7 to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the funeral home Saturday, October 19th at 10 a.m with interment to follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery, Calvin Township. The family would like to express their appreciation for the special care given by Lise Lefebvre and family over the past years and to Doctor Wilkins and staff of the Mattawa Hospital and Doctor Paul and staff at the North Bay Hospital. Donations to War Amps of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
