Doris Ida Hawkins, nee Reddaway, passed away peacefully in her 97th year at Casselholme on Thursday December 22nd, 2011. Doris was predeceased by parents, William and Susan Reddaway, sister Phyllis Beattie (Jack) and brother Gordon Reddaway (Verna). Survived by daughter Joan and husband Neill of Brampton, stepson Bob Hawkins of Edmonton, Grandchildren Bill Thornton (Suzie) of Montreal, Liz Rea (Steve) of Brampton and step grand-daughter Sonja Pellerin (Albert) of Mattawa, Great Grandchildren Jason, Jeffrey and Andrew Thornton of Montreal, Gordon, Michelle, and Daniel Rea of Brampton, Zachary and Tim Pellerin of Mattawa and Katie, Ashley, and Jessica Hawkins of Edmonton. Doris married Billie Nichols who died in 1953. She then married Orville Hawkins who passed away in 1976. Doris worked as a secretary for 26 years at Algonquin Composite School and West Farris Secondary School. She enjoyed retirement, gardening, travelling and volunteering at the Civic Hospital for 27 years. She was a life member of the hospital Auxiliary Association since 1993. Many thanks to Dr. Prins and the staff of Casselholme for their compassionate and excellent care. Thank you as well to Dr. W. Graham, CCAC (Yolanda), and Doris' friends Shirley and Allan, Naz and neighbours Pat and Bob for enabling her to remain in her house so long. Thanks also to Trinity Church (Rae) for bringing her goodies. Doris's family will receive friends in the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7 - 9 pm. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:30 pm on Thursday December 29th.
