Obituary of Edna May Miles
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
At the age of 86 at Water’s Edge Care Community in North Bay, Edna passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017. Edna was predeceased by her husband, David (2013) and is lovingly remembered by her sons: David (Kim), Peter (Nancy) and Stephen (Cindy), grandchildren: Andrew, Michael, Joanna, John, James, Peter, Sarah, Joel, David, Stephen, Rosemarie, Thomas, Benjamin and 12 great grandchildren.
Edna was born in London, England on July 21, 1930. She survived diphtheria, scarlet fever, polio (which ended her dreams of becoming a dancer) and tuberculosis - and also lived through the London Blitz bombing of World War II. She was a strong lady.
Edna, her husband David and three sons moved to Toronto, Canada in 1967 with only a suitcase of clothing and $200.00. Edna and David operated their own business “Miles Machine Tool Ltd.” Upon retiring, they moved to Corbeil in 2004 to enjoy the beauty of Northern Ontario.
Edna’s passions in life included her family, reading (especially Catherine Cookson, Helen Forrester & Lena Kennedy), gardening, knitting and nature. She faithfully fed all the wildlife that she came into contact with. Birdfeeders were always filled to overflowing; corn was set out for the deer in winter. Chipmunks and squirrels were never far away.
Sadly dementia stole away our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, piece by piece. She never lost her love of animals. The resident cat at Water’s Edge Care Community, gave her much pleasure. Special thanks goes out to Edna’s caregivers on Pier I.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home. In memory of Edna, put out a bird feeder, take your dog for a walk or give your cat some Tender Vittles.
