Obituary of Florence Mildred Redmond

Redmond, Florence (Alder) With our hearts heavy, we said goodbye to our Mom, Nanny and Great Nanny on Monday, Sept. 26th at Cassellholme, while in her 92nd year. She was surrounded by the people she loved and those who loved her. She was born Florence Mildred Alder, April 21st, 1925 in Smith Falls, Ontario. She was the loved daughter of Thomas and Eleanor Alder {Cockburn}. The family moved to Ottawa where she attended high school and secretarial college. In 1942 mom enlisted in the RCAF and was stationed in Vulcan, Alberta as a Dental Assistant, one of her proudest accomplishments. She returned to Ottawa and worked for the Federal Government where she met and fell in love with her husband Sam. They moved to Sault Ste. Marie where their first son Harold was born. Then moving to North Bay where Ellen Vaughan{Chuck} and another son Paul {Louise} were added to the family. Also remembering Baby Nancy Anne, passing after just a few hours. Sam predeceased Flo in 1992. Predeceased by her sisters Eleanor Faire {Denzil}, Margaret Reid and brothers Thomas Alder {Sylvia} and Harold Alder. Nan was much loved by her Grandchildren Adam Vaughan {Kristen}, Leah, Joel and Nicky Redmond and Sarah {Chuck} and Sam Redmond. Also loved by Great grandchildren Edisyn Vaughan, Taylor, Emma and Hayden Redmond. Will be greatly missed by niece Sharon and her husband Keith Vertue, nephew Denny and Carolyn Faire and Great Niece Heather Faire. Mom was blessed to live in her home until the age of 88 where they raised their family, making life-long friends and amazing memories for all of us. We were thankful that two of those life-long friends, Helen Cole and Elaine Burrows were with us when mom passed. Her last years were spent at Cassellholme where she was cared for with love from all the angels that work on the Apple Unit. Thank you is not enough, you will always be part of our family and know that mom loved each and every one of you. Special thank you to the Henschel Family for your visits and devotion to Nan and to Janet Parfitt for sharing your time and gift of music with mom. And to Rev’d Marie and Patricia Carriere who appeared just when we needed you most. And thank you mom for making family the most important thing in your life. And now, with your love and guidance, we will carry on for you from this point on. Visitation will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Friday, September 30th from 11:00am until time for a memorial service to be held in the chapel at 1:00pm. If desired donations to All Heart Pet Rescue or Christ Church Anglican will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Online condolences at www.martynfh.com.
