Obituary of Craig Thomas Hurst

HURST – Craig Thomas The Hurst family sadly announces Craig’s passing at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Saturday August 6, 2016. Craig died with his family by his side, at the age of 72, after a brief battle with cancer. The beloved husband of Elaine, he was the proud and loving father of Shannon, of Beaverlodge, Alberta, and of the late Adam, also the loving grandfather of Jordan and Dagen. He also will be sadly missed by his brother Don (Anne) of St. Catharines, his niece April of Virgil, and his great nephew Millar. The son of the late George and Georgina Hurst, formerly of St. Catharines, he is also survived by many cousins in Canada and Ireland. He will be greatly missed by his many friends. An educator by profession, and after having taught for several years Craig became the first Director of Education for the Sahtu Board, North West Territories. In 1993 he left the north, relocating to North Bay where he joined Fabrene, retiring as the Director of the Human Resources Department in 2006. An educator, a naturalist, a photographer, and most importantly a devout Christian, Craig was an active and dedicated member of the Anglican church. Friends are invited to share their memories with his family on Tuesday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Martyn Funeral Home, 464 Wyld Street, North Bay. A service to celebrate his life will be held in Christ Church Anglican, 312 Greenwood Ave., North Bay, at 1:30pm Wednesday August 10, 2016. Cremation to follow. As Craig was on of the Directors of Laurier Woods, in lieu of flowers, donations to Laurier Woods will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Online condolences at www.martynfh.com.
