Peacefully passed away at Cassellholme on July 30, 2016, in his 98th year. Bud was the beloved husband of the late Eileen (Babe) Holmes for nearly sixty years. Dear father of Delana Atkins and loving grandfather of Kayla (Jeff) Miller, Kenton (Jessica), Kameron (Amanda), Kelly and Koltin Atkins. Great grandfather to Beckett, Sydney and soon to arrive, Roman. He will be sadly missed by his sister Marjorie (Donald) Bowman. Bud was born in Capreol, Ontario, to the late James and Adeline Holmes, predeceased by his sisters June (Art) Lawrence, Betty (Ed) Burt, and his brother Garth (Bell) Holmes. Bud served out country during WWII with the Royal Canadian Air Force in North Africa and England. It was there that he discovered his love and talent for tennis. Bud was inducted to the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements, dedication and contributions in the sport of tennis. Bud worked for the CNR until his retirement in 1983. Bud from a young age assisted his father as a groundskeeper for St. John’s cemetery. This job reflected his kind, caring nature to anyone who needed a friend. He retired from these duties at the age of 90. Prior to residing at Cassellholme, he lived with Babe at Eastholme (Powassan, Ont). The family would like to thank both Eastholme and Cassellholme for the love and support both Bud and Babe were shown during their stays. Bud took great pleasure in forming friendships with many staff members, many receiving personalized nicknames from him. His family feels great joy in knowing that Bud and Babe are reunited and now are waltzing across the dance floor together. At Bud’s request cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial donations to the Parkinson’s Society Central-Northern Ontario, in memory of his loving wife Babe would be acknowledged by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home. Online condolences www.martynfuneralhome.ca
