Saddened to hear of Eva's passing. My children, Sean (40) and Lisa (38) have many fond memories of their time at Paul Davoud School and of their principal Mrs. Wardlaw. I too, have fond memories from my time as the Chairman of the(her)School Board in the early '80s. Whenever I think of North Bay, I always see Eva in my mind's eye. God Bless.

Eva cared so much for people from all walks of life, gently teaching everyone life lessons from which they all benefited along with their families and friends. For those who she felt had the capabilities and desire to contribute to her community in the exemplary way she did, she offered special support and understanding. She knew that it took a village of givers to create a healthy environment in which everyone could move forward. A perceptive leader, she didn't accept the opinion of the herd about people and events. Instead, she listened and watched carefully for the truth with an open mind, all the while looking for, and promoting, the good in others. I'm sure her dearest wish would be that we would all take up her torch and continue to contribute in the same way. What an outstanding woman, friend and mentor. We will miss her terribly while keeping her smiling face in our minds as we look for ways to be like her.

My aunt Eva hired me to work at Paul Davoud school as an elementary French Immersion teacher immediately after my graduation from Teachers college. She was supportive, encouraging me in every aspect as my teaching career began. She was family, but also my first principal ! Her warm, positive personality allowed her staff to shine. We worked well as a team as we felt love and support from our " Eva". When I married my husband aunt Eva gave the toast to the bride, as my own father had passed away. I keep a copy of her speech and reread it when I need a boost to my confidence. We made it to her last big birthday bash, when Philip, her son was still living. I have fond memories of Aunt Eva ! She will be missed by her family and her many friends..

Aunt Eva created a lasting impression on me in one of our interactions as her young niece. I was shy and timid; I sat colouring while Aunt Eva and Uncle Everett visited with my mom and dad (Rene & Sadie Gratton). I carefully outlined the exterior of my drawing and with great care and diligence, coloured softly within the boundaries. Aunt Eva joined me at the table. "Joanna!" she admonished " lose the fear, look outside this window, see the vibrant hues, the life, the glory of nature! Be brave, have fun." She brandished the crayon and quickly turned my pale replication into splashes of vibrancy. Eva encouraged us to love life, live life. A wonderful human being. She will be missed. My husband Hans & I offer our deepest condolences to Eva's family.

My deepest sympathies goes out to Mrs.Wardlaw's family and friends. Im proud to say she touched my life. It was my pleasure to have her as my teacher at Paul Davoud School. I loved her no nonsense ways. I believe she paved the way for a lot of young people. I also got the pleasure of knowing her outside the schhol. I loved meeting up with her lovely and happy face.

Mrs. Wardlaw was an inspiration. Little did we know that our daily interaction with her would leave a lifetime impression. Her straightforwardness, her humour and her intelligence helped make our school what it was. Her leadership was so inherent I think we took it for granted that any woman could achieve whatever they strove for. We are all better people having known her.

She was the most welcoming person to me at Paul Davoud School. Firm but fair and always with a smile. And a role model to me as a young girl to see a woman in a position of authority first at the school and then in the community. What a legacy she leaves.
