Obituary of Muriel Joan Hughes
Hughes, Muriel Joan (nee Mitchell) 85 of North Bay, died peacefully April 24, 2015. Born to the late Hubert and Elizabeth Mitchell (nee MacDougall), October 17, 1929 South of Blackfoot, AB. Youngest of nine children predeceased by Kitty, Jack, Lou, Phil, Grace, Walter, survived by Ted Mitchell and Helen Japp. Possessed with a remarkable memory she told many stories of growing up on the family farm. Blinded in an accident as a child, she attended the CNIB School for the Blind boarding 9 months of the year in Brantford, Ontario. Upon graduating she became a home teacher for the blind. Married Charles Russell Hughes (1923-1988) in 1956. He was blind from shrapnel in WW2 and as the story goes, the worst student married the teacher. Muriel and Russ were avid music lovers and played guitar and accordion at many parties. They were the loving parents of Bob and Phil. Muriel is also survived by her grandchildren Tabitha and Ryan and great granddaughter Meagan. Visitation will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday April 29th from 1-3pm and the service will follow from 3-4pm.
