A Remembrance of Meg I first met Ron and Meg at Emmanuel United Church when it was located in the old building just past the bridge coming into West Ferris. Their girls were still young ; I had just given birth to my first of three girls Dimitra who is now 33 years old. One of the fondest memories I have of them is the vision of Ron and one of his girls walking their well-loved swing set from their home on Parson’s Avenue to our home on Whitney so my girls could enjoy it as much as theirs had. This would foreshadow what would become “the self-moving” way of the Purdy family I would come to know. Like the famous “moving of the woodstove by canoe” over to the island. Such a pioneering spirit those Purdy’s! All kidding aside, I’m forever indebted to both Ron and Meg for their generous “listening to”, nurturing and support of this then young mom of three girls and blossoming teacher throughout my time in North Bay and afterwards during our many visits back “home”. Meg’s journey towards ordination was incredibly inspiring to me, so much so that I too will be ordained in June 2015 although as an Interfaith Minister, but it’s all good. Those many visits and talks about not just “religion” but authentic spirituality broadened my thinking and action – it was Meg who encouraged me to belong to an ecumenical group in town and get involved with the UN sanctioned, Canadian observed International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. I was just recently appointed to the Detroit Conference of the United Methodist Church Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Relations – a very long title for someone who encourages positive communication and cooperation between Christian and other faith groups. This has become my second career life’s work as an Interfaith Minister – all spurred on and nurtured by Ms. Meg. As recently as a few months ago Meg emailed me a piece she wrote for a United Church of Canada publication – “thoughts on the challenge of raising spirit-filled children in the 21rst Century”. I was so honored that she would ask me to look at it – a revealing and educational piece indeed. Meg was truly ahead of the curve in her thinking and writing. Meg has mentored and nurtured many more individuals than we probably would be able to name – Reverend Cindy Randall (formerly Laing) for one and certainly her gifted daughters Heather, Dawn and Erin – educators, a chaplain and nurturing mothers. I’m a better mother, wife, educator, minister and person because of Meg Purdy. God bless her transitioning gentle soul and bring comfort to Ron, Heather, Dawn, Erin and their families. With respect and love, Laurie Del Pino

We were sad to hear of Meg's passing but at the same time thankful to God for having known her. She was a great mentor and "soul friend" to me while I was training for the ministry and I am grateful for her calm presence and many words of wisdom. Walt is also thankful to have met her and to count both Meg and Ron as friends. She was a courageous person in many ways and we will remember her with love and deep gratitude. Rev. Cindy Randall (formerly Laing) and Walt Trenner

Ron, Heather, Dawn, Erin and families, Our hearts are saddened with the news of the loss of your wife and mother's presence here on earth. We all have the warmest memories of Meg, especially our visit this past August with both Ron and Meg at the condo. Meg's generosity with our family while we lived in North Bay is without equal - the gifts of time, talks, caring, concern, prayers....we just loved visiting and catching up on her busy life and the lives of the girls. Ron, our prayers and love are with you as you begin this part of your journey before you are able to go home to join Meg. God bless you all. Much, much love, prayers and hugs, Laurie, Julius, Dimitra, Athena and Serena xoxoxoxo
