Obituary of Anne Hartman
Hartman, Anne (nee Mulcahy). Passed away peacefully at the Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa on July 16, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Alvin Edward Hartman. Dear mother of Laura Ross (Bruce). She will be missed by her grandchildren Cindy Bastien (Claude), Brian Ross, Shaun Ross (Tammy), Christopher Ross (Daniel), Derek Hartman, Jeremy Moulton (Hartman), and her great-grandchildren Austin, Haley, Kaela, Connor, Alliyah, Sascha, Jared and Aiden. Survived by her sisters Sue and Gertrude Mulcahy, both of Orillia.
Predeceased by her son William, her parents Matthew Teefy Mulcahy and Gertrude Louise Mulcahy, sisters Jacqueline & Clara Mulcahy, and brothers Father Matthew Teefy Mulcahy, Charles Mulcahy & Rolland Mulcahy. Anne will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews.
Anne and Alvin lived in Timmins, Ontario where she was a secretary for several years, then moved to Delhi, Ontario, Terrace Bay and finally to Mattawa in 1965.
Anne started a local newspaper called the Mattawa News in 1966 and ran it until 1971.
She was an extremely active member of her community. She sat on numerous boards. She was President of the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary as well as the Regional Chair. She was the President of the Mattawa Figure Skating Club and President of the Mattawa Resource Centre for several years.
She was a medal recipient of “The Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada”, honoured as an outstanding Canadian to the betterment of Mattawa and its peoples and recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada.
Anne also received an award from the Province of Ontario for her exemplary dedication and volunteer service to the Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre.
Family will be receiving friends at the Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel” on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, July 19th at 11am at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Donations in Anne’s memory to St. Anne’s Parish will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
