Obituary of Nelson Raoul Gravelle

Gravelle, Nelson. May 22, 1930 – June 2, 2014. Survived by his wife of 64 years Marion (nee Therrien), and by his children Claude (Kathleen), Armand (Debbie), Jacques (Lise), Marilyn Meinke (Dave), Paul (Lise) and Jean Kelly (Joe). Lovingly cherished by his ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his infant daughter Jeanine and his siblings Wilfred, Emile, Arnel, Fern, Antoinette (Toni) and Agnes. Nelson spent many years working for the Upper Ottawa Improvement Co. (ICO) as a tugboat operator. As Captain of The Beauchene, the P.J. Murer, the Deschenes and the Fleck. He shepherded log booms on the Ottawa River between Notre Dame du Nord and Deux Rivieres. Family will be receiving friends at the MARTYN & SLOAN “MATTAWA CHAPEL” on Thursday, June 5 from 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, June 6 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Nelson’s memory be made to the Alzheimer Society or to the Northern Cancer Foundation.
