Please share a memory of Delma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SMYLIE - DELMA Miss North Bay 1948, extraordinary mother, and lover of the arts - Delma Beatrice Smylie (nee Paterson) snuck away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2014 - the day of her late husbands birthday. She was the devoted partner for 58 years to the love of her life, veterinarian, mayor, and runner Dr. Jack Smylie. What a birthday gift to receive the woman he so loved, back into his loving arms - together forever. Delma was the loving mother of Drew (Gabrielle Bauer) of Toronto, Emily-Ann (Anthony Crea) of Newmarket, Gay (Charlie Grose) of Callander, Paul of North Bay, and Clark (Anita Mathis) of North Bay. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren; Weston, Peter, Stefanie, Tara, Jackson, Hazel and David. Delma was predeceased by her parents; Fred and Emily Paterson, and her treasured siblings; Edwin, Gerald, Warren, Margaret and Gladys. Delma's sharp eye for fashion, her love of antiques, and her passion for the arts and gardening will forever be remembered. She loved to get dressed to the nines and head out for the evening on the arm of her beloved husband. She was one of the original members of the Gateway Theatre Guild dedicating more than 50 years to ensure that every cast member's hair and makeup were perfect. She loved the camaraderie of the theatre, and indulging in gales of laughter with the cast. She was always generous and supported an endless number of charities and causes. She had a flair for the dramatic and an appreciation for the arts that she passed on to her children. A gathering to celebrate Delma's life will be held from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Empire Living Centre in the Empress Ballroom on Sunday, April 20, 2014 p.m. for those that would like to visit with the family. Respecting Delma’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. If desired, a donation to the Gateway Theatre Guild will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
