Obituary of John Dwight Smith

SMITH: Dwight Passed away at the North Bay Regional Health Center after a courageous battle with Cancer. John Dwight Smith, was the beloved husband of Lorraine Florence (nee Brock), he was 68 years old. Loving father of Preston Smith (Maggie), Samantha Smith (Miles), Pamela Smith and by his step-children Harry Whalley (Leanne), LeeAnn Whalley-Moore (Garry) and Nicole Whalley. He will be lovingly remembered by his 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dearly loved brother of Ione Barre (predeceased by Moe), Karl Smith (Charlene), Dwyla Hartmann (Uwe), Linda Thompson (Jim) and Blake Smith (Donna). He was predeceased by his parents Karl Smith and Daisy Fraser (nee Preston) and by his brother Gilman. Dwight enjoyed many hours playing or listening to music. Often he and Lorraine would be found at the Legion on the weekend enjoying the performers, dancing and sometimes Dwight would even play along on the "spoons". Dwight was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23 for 27 years. Visitation for Dwight will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9 PM. A Legion Service will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, February 13th at 10:30am followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Spring interment at the North Bay Union Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Northern Cancer Research Foundation - Daffodil Lodge or the North Bay Regional Health Center Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
