Jeff and Greg, It is hard to believe a year has past. I commented to a number of people this fall how empty omischel football field felt this past season without your dad their watching, coaching or announcing games. I miss seeing him around. My thoughts to you both at this tough time of year.

I knew Tom when I was a kid he was about 5 yrs older than me (big gap when you're a kid) and went to King George Public and Algonquin Composite back when it was still English. I would get into plenty of fights -my brother who was Tom's age though not size never defended me but on occassion Tom did as I was fighting lots of times kids his age. He always was kind and had a great smile and I have memories of him playing for the Trojans. I'm sure he grew up being what he was so condolences to all that matter.

I'm really sorry to hear of Timber's passing. He was a pure beauty. You seldom see a man who is able to play the dual role of father and friend the way he did. Jeff and Greg, you're a legacy left behind that he can be proud of. Sorry that I can't pay my respects in person. - Briggs

"Timber" was a teammate of mine on the football team at the University of Guelph. He stood across from me in the defensive huddle and sat three lockers down in the team room. He was a good player who understood the meaning of being on a team. He loved playing football and being with the guys. He never complained although he didn't much care for wind sprints. He was a quiet leader who everyone liked.
In later years I became a football coach at several different universities. Recruiting North Bay was a pleasure. There was nothing about North Bay Football Tom didn't know. He was helpful in introducing me around town and generous with his time. It was also great fun to catch up with Tom and share some laughs. For those of us in the coaching community "Timber" Graham was the face of football in North Bay for many years. In his understated way he was immensely proud of his hometown and the many young football players with whom he connected. I am glad I had the opportunity to know Tom and to have had a chance to share the time I did with him. My condolences go out to his family and many friends. He will be missed.

Tom Graham...I met Tommy my first day of school in Mrs. Wilson's Kindergarten class at King George School...we became instant friends and that bond has not been broken for 60 years.
In Kindergarten we were reprimanded once (well, more than once but not for the same offence) by Mrs. Wilson for looking under the girls bathroom doors. Why, I don't know? Haha! I don't remember whether or not we were sent home, but what I did know was "OUR LIFE WAS TRULY ON"!
Grades 4-6 was spent preparing our minds for the finer things to come in life, and developing our underdeveloped literary genius? How you ask, well throughout the week we collected 6 bottle caps each so we could sit all morning in the old Odeon Theater on Main St. watching the Three Stooges for free...what! How else...it was great?
As we grew older (and more mature, haha!) Our time was spent in school at King George and before school, and during lunch hour, and after school we hit softballs from the schoolyard baseball diamond onto the school roof. We felt like we were hitting out of Yankee Stadium...Timber always led the pack in numbers. Myself, and others did it as well but Tom was consistent and we were no match for that monster swing, and the power he packed in his youth. At the end of each day the janitor was up on the roof retrieving balls for the next day, and we'd do it all over again...weather permitting, of course (had to put that in...can't play ball in the rain). And God help our opponents when we got older and started playing football at ACS...when Timber hit you, it was like being hit by a truck! I was always happy he was on my team. We still had to deal with him in practice, but I always knew he was easier on me. Even though I was older than Tom by a month, I always thought I shared him with his brother Bill...I felt he was like my older brother as well. He wasn't, and Lord knows I had enough siblings...well, that's another story? He seemed to always have an eye out for me. After I moved away, he kept an eye on my sisters Fran and Wendy and I'm sure they kept an eye on him as well. I always got the updates.
Tom and I played hockey and football together at ACS and baseball in the sandlot across from the Graham family home between McIntyre W. and Main St. on Durrill St. On weekends we'd play ball in the morning and lunch on hotdogs with Dorothy and Jim...usually all we could eat, and we'd get right back out on the diamond. We thought our time would go on forever, but in hindsight it just flew by. I still fondly remember the crew headed up by Tommy...myself,Rick and Randy Coates,Jack Rossiter, Bruce Bryer, and Murray Montemurro, and of course anyone else that wanted to play.
In 1979, I moved out to Calgary, and while we didn't see each very often, distance wasn't an issue. We always stayed in touch and I was kept fully informed of the progress of Uncle Bill (to the boys), Greg and Jeff and of course, Debbie. His boys were his pride and joy, but he never had to tell me how they turned cuz I already knew...no mistakes! They came from good stock!
Only a week and a half ago Tom and I were discussing Dorothy's chocolate cake back in the day, and he was telling me his Aunt Jean makes one just as good! I like to try that sometime!!!
I wasn't much of a cook (I got the basics down pat),but it looks like Jim and Dorothy had THE RECIPE:
They took equal parts of strength, loyalty, honesty, integrity, humor, kindness, gentleness, courage, humility, pride, honor, patriotism, sportsmanship, and a good helping of civic duty. They mixed it all together and made Tom...a recipe that will never be duplicated in it's current format. He was a Prince!
He's gone now, and I have a huge void in my life...I'm ok though. I felt I'd truly won the lottery when the good Lord put The Graham Family right in my neighborhood for him to grow up as My Pal.
Tommy, you being in my life has made me a better person and for that, I'm so very thankful...someday my friend I'll see you again on the other side. Rest in peace...

Timber was my coach and mentor for so many years but most importantly he was a friend. We could lose hours together talking football. I owe many of fondest memories and friendships to Tom, without him I would not have had the chance to enjoy the sport of football for so many years. His hard work and dedication to football inspired me to volunteer my time giving back to the game when I was done playing. I learnt so much from this man that I will never forget. Jeff, I pass on my condolences to you and your entire family.

Tom was a big man but his heart was even bigger. Everyone he met became his friend no matter who they were or where they came from. A perfect gentleman; the guy who made sure everyone got home safely from our adventures; the passionate athlete who passed on to those he played with and coached, his coda of being fierce on the playing field but once the game was over, so was the competition between all of the players as you left any animosity on the field...if you weren't a good winner as well as a good loser, you had no place on Tom's teams. I know his sons will carry on his legacy...the man who was everything a real man should be. He will be greatly missed by so many people. I am honoured to have been his friend.

We have lost a true leader in our community! From the time I first met Timber when I was playing for the Northmen and for the many years after either singing at football games for Timber or just going for a beer, Timber always greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome. His passion was football and so many of us benefited from what he did for the game in North Bay and northern Ontario. His dedication to making North Bay a better place to live will never be forgotten and I hope that the city recognizes this North Bayite for what he has done for sport in North Bay outside of the Sports Hall of Fame. RIP Timber!! You will definitely be missed. Until we meet again.

I remember the first time I met Timber. I believe it was the fall of 1990 in chambers of city hall. The Brampton Bulldogs football club had folded, and Tom and Tim Pendergast organized a meeting to gauge the interest of forming a team to enter back into the NFC. I had the honour of being able to continue playing football thanks to the dedication and leadership of Tom. I remember the many hours he volunteered to the program. I remember Jeff and Greg out with their Dad at practices. Timber's love of the game was infectious and over those years, I caught the bug. The game provided me self confidence, taught me the benefits from teamwork, dedication, hard work. All these skills I carry with me in my professional life today. Tom was a role model for me by sharing his love of the game. I believe it was around 1994 and Timber wanted to start a football camp for kids. He approached Roy Desjardins, Mark Ricker, myself and a couple or others to run the program. I had so much fun. I still remember a little guy named Zack, could not have been more than 8 years old. While he was running a drill he turned to me and said "Coach! I am getting to old for this." Currently, I help coach the Widdifield Junior Football club. It was great to see Timber at the gridiron each year. When I went to say hello, I wish I would have said thank you. However, I think he knew he had an integral part of me being there. I go to every practice and game and hope I can pass on the bug to another young man and he gets from the game what Timber helped teach me. My son turns 10 this year. He is chomping at the bit to play football. When Liam puts on the pads and hits the field for the first time, I will remember its thanks to Timber's efforts there is another generation that has a chance to catch the football spirit. Timber has created a living legacy in this city. What a great tribute. I will have a heavy heart when I go to omischel this summer to watch the Bulldogs and Nipissing Wild knowing that there is someone missing on the sidelines. You were gentlemen and inspiring. You have not fumbled the ball, you have passed it to others to continue marching it down the field! RIP Timber

It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Tom. From a personal note, Tom was always approachable with me to chat about politics and sports as I will remember his words of wisdom on both. It was only a couple of weeks ago that he offered me his congrats on becoming the Chair of the NNDSB and advice. And at the sametime, asking me to say to a hello to my ailing dad with high words of admiration. All the while his own health was failing. This fall when high school football season starts up again, his physical presence may be missing but his spirit will be on the field! Tom, you leave a big hole in the neighbourhood and community!
