Obituary of Rita Corinne Marie Masciangelo

Masciangelo, Rita Corinne Marie Passed away peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Monday, January 13th , 2014 at the age of 93. Daughter of the late Romaine & Beatrice (Rivet) Cousineau. Born and raised in Sudbury, Rita married her sweetheart Patrick Masciangelo Sr. They were married 50 years, and during this time operated family trucking businesses in the Sudbury area. After raising her family, Rita also worked for Sears and sold Avon. She was a member of the CWL, and sang in the choirs at Holy Trinity & St. Dominique’s Church in Sudbury. Her love for cooking French & Italian foods, entertaining and hosting family gatherings always warmed her heart, especially those wonderful Sunday dinners. Her family and faith were very important to her. Rita was the loving mother of Lillian Salfi (late Paul) of St. Catharines, Sonny (Claire) of Sudbury, Ronald (Prescilla) of Espanola, Louise Defonzo (Joe) of North Bay, and Denise Cockburn (David) of Sudbury. Dear sister of Yvette Ceccarelli (late Gus) of Sudbury. Proud grandmother of Patricia McDonnell (Gary) & Jamie Salfi, Jason (Carey) & Carla Masciangelo, Jeffrey Masciangelo (Sandra) & Jennifer Masciangelo, and Nicholas, Alexandra & James Rivet; great-grandmother of Amanda & Robbie McDonnell, Simon & Allison Masciangelo, and Jaymie Lynne Masciangelo-Tunney. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her husband Patrick Sr. (1988), her infant daughter Madeleine, her brother Pete Cousineau (Leona surviving), and her sister Gertrude McCarthy (late Red). Friends may call at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Friday, January 17th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on Saturday January 18th at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow, with a celebration of life interment in Sudbury in late Spring. Donations (by cheque) can be made to the North Bay Regional Health Centre- MRI Fund, or a Mass of Intention of your choice. On behalf of our dear Mother, the family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the many people & friends who supported her on her journey. Especially to her caring Dr. Andre Rivet, the wonderful nurses on 3C, 3B, and A1 at the hospital, and to the home care she received from CCAC, VON, and the Red Cross Society.
