Obituary of Michael David Armstrong

Michael David Armstrong - family man, master of all things electrical, comic, and prankster - died at the age of 62, on Tuesday October 22, 2013. He was born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Tales of his antics and narrow escapes were filled with humour. It was at an early age that he developed a strong work ethic. This sense of pride in his work carried through to adulthood. As owner and operator of Armstrong Electric, he loved his work and the people he worked with. He left Kirkland Lake as a young man to follow the love of his life, Deborah Louise. They married and started to lay down roots in North Bay. In the early days of their life together, creativity and thrift were both a necessity and a source of pride for Michael. Michael had three children; Seana, Cory, and Dana. Moving past the sadness of losing Cory suddenly as an infant, he raised his daughters to be strong and independent. He ensured that both daughters had fully stocked toolboxes. Both knew she was dad's favorite. He gained two sons when Seana married Brendan and Dana married Dave. This gave Michael the opportunity to pass on his appreciation for tinkering. When grandchildren arrived, he loved to wind them up and teach them the things that their mothers would not! For Ellis, Willem, Gantry, and Audrey, Grandpa was special. Recreation came in many forms, enjoyed with both friends and extended family. Skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, cottage life and boating helped to create many memories. He had a lifelong love affair with bologna, old war movies, and pumpkin pie. Michael believed that everyone should be included. He also liked knowing where his money went. To that end, he often donated directly to local school children for field trips or sports equipment. In this spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, a direct donation to someone in need would be appreciated. He referred to himself as Michael, but most called him Mike. Growing up it was Army, and those who knew his comical side called him Mikey. At home he was lovingly referred to as Charlie, Dad, and Grandpa. His passing has left a huge hole in the lives of many and he will be missed but never forgotten. Despite his irrational fear of his family throwing him a party, please join Debbie and her family in remembering the life of Michael David Armstrong on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm for visitation. Service is Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11:00am. Both will be held at Martyn Funeral Home. Online condolences at www.martynfh.com
