I'm an old friend of Jim's from the 1970's and 1980's and just learned of his passing through a Google search on March 25, 2015. I certainly want to pass on my deepest sympathies to Jim's family and friends. Jim was a wonderful person. Jim and I worked together at Bank of Nova Scotia in Windsor, Ontario in, I believe, 1978 and 1979. I remember Jim had quite a sense of humour and was very well liked by everyone. For me, Jim made coming to work every day a pure pleasure as he brightened what was sometimes a very negative atmosphere that we had in banking in those days. Jim was transferred to Calgary in 1979 and I was transferred to Edmonton in February of 1980. We kept in touch with each other and shared stories about events that compelled us both to look for other opportunities outside of banking. For a time, it was a toss up as to who would leave first. We also attended a bank golf tournament together in Red Deer in 1980 and had a great time. Unfortunately, that was the last time I ever saw Jim. I remember getting a call from Jim one day to say that he was leaving the bank. He told me he was uncomfortable with the fact that the only thing he knew how to do was lend money. I think he believed it didn't bode well for the future. He turned out to be right and it sounds from one of the other postings like Jim had a great career with the railroad. I am not surprised that he turned out to be a good teacher. Jim was a very intelligent and warm-hearted individual and cared deeply about his accomplishments. He bonded with others very easily, an instantly likeable fellow. Rest in peace, Jim. We all miss you. Richard Baughman

My wife Joanne and Becky were closer than Jim and I, still we spent many hours together usually over dinner at their place, or ours. Jim and I shared a love of dogs, music, people, extraordinary machines, people, movies, humour, and wit and we discussed past, present, and future while solving many of the worlds problems. We have had many laughs together, and have often yelled out B.S. Jim will live on in my memories, and I know my face will light up as I recall some of the things he said and did. I feel compelled to share my grief with those of you who may feel the same loss. Jim was a character. We will all miss him.

I worked with Jim for a few years at CP. The one thing that comes to mind when thinking about Jim was his passion. He was passionate about work and life. Jim was a great teacher and pushed you to think about things at work in a different way. We had a lot of great talks about music, work and life. Jim had a lot of great energy too. My condolences to your family in this time of loss. Karlé Green
