My sincere sympathy to Helen's family. I had the pleasure of working with Helen many years ago when she worked for the ONR. What stands out in my memory was not only her intelect but the kindness and consideration she showed towards everyone. I have met many people throughout my lifetime but few have left such a lasting impression as Helen. Such a beautiful soul - R.I.P.

I'm wondering if Helen Louise was the same woman my sister and I used to see on the Georgetown train station platform in about 1944 as she stood in military uniform for the Toronto-bound train. We were very young teenagers and very shy. We didn't speak to her. Our family went to her father Dr Claude Williams, who we greatly respected and revered. In those days doctors dispensed some meds and I think didn't charge my family because we were poor.

From your next door neighbor, Valerie Creech on Talon Lake-
Yes Lois, we really must get together to share some of the fond memories we have of your mother (keeping in mind that those rum and cokes for which she had cultivated a heavy hand figure mightily in my memory too)!!
Right away, when I told Jim of her passing he mentioned the memory of seeing her down painting the dock in a dress and kerchief (to keep her hair tidy)!
In the years before we plowed our roads, I'll never forget her rushing over to our place one morning on her skidoo (side-saddle, in skirt and dress coat, with Sorrels and heavy mitts) with a trailer-load of insulation which she and I used to cover my frozen waterline in 30 below weather. (That was my first winter here and I had phoned her in a panic because I had no water and 14-year-old Becky had to write an exam that day and needed to shower) Within an hour, just as Helen had predicted I had water and the solution was at hand! To this day I cover my waterline with insulation in the fall and think of her every time the temperature dips to frigid.
Another time, I was making my way up the s-curve on our road in the dead of winter (on the skidoo and trailer she had so generously loaned me), when the engine lost power. It didn't stop altogether, but was laboring ever so slowly up the hill. I had a full trailer-load of groceries and 7-year-old Karen with me. I had gotten off the machine to lighten the load and was walking along beside it, pushing and willing it up the hill. Then along came Helen, up the hill from behind me. As she pulled up beside me on her other skidoo we just looked at each other and then, with this profoundly incredulous look on her face, she said, "Do you believe some people do this for recreation?!" I couldn't help but laugh. And concur. Really!
Such was her grand enigmatic personality- always the lady, right down to the finest detail, all the while scoffing at the frivolous and ever ready and willing to tackle work as hard as, or maybe harder than most men could handle, to get the job done.
My son, Michael's immediate reaction when I emailed him with the sad news of her passing was that he too remembers her fondly. He reminisced about the time when he was 14 years old, how she had been his lone strong supporter when a group of adults scooped the job he had created for himself, of cleaning and maintaining the two provincial parks on our lake. Unbeknownst to him, these men applied for and received a "Youth Initiative Grant" and then handed both the job and the money to one of their own, summarily cutting Mike out. Mrs. Boody expressed as much outrage and disappointment as he was feeling at the time. "Youth Initiative indeed!" she harrumphed. And it went a long way to assuage his hurt that at least one adult was willing to affirm his efforts and acknowledge his indignation at the injustice that had been done to him.
She and I spent a couple of sessions over those rums and cokes while she gave me a history of why and how she came to be on Lake Talon, along with a number of stories of her early years out here. I was flattered that she was willing to tell me all this. I always thought I would like to formally interview her- sit down and write all about her and submit the piece to some publication that pays tribute to some of Canada's most "Unforgettable People".
Inspiration is what she embodied- and quite frankly, I would not have had the nerve or the courage to move out here to Talon Lake when times got tough for us, without her in mind.
We will surely miss her and remember her, always. Our sympathy is with you and your family in your time of great loss.

I had the privilege of a few visits with Mrs. Boody over the last few years.I always learned something! It could be world religion or politics or family stories. Honestly I was out of my element with world issues. But she had very definite opinions on these matters. She told me recently on a hospital visit..."Sandra I do not understand how people at this time in their lives can be bored.I have so much to think of and review about my life, my children ,my adventures and my time in Toronto and on Lake Talon. She felt her life had been and was full. You all have showed your care and love for her over this last sometimes difficult few years.I have truly enjoyed knowing Helen and many things she has said to me have made a very distinct impact. Take care of each other as you took care of her.
With sincere love and care Sandra and Don
