Obituary of Marjorie Coates

COATES, Marjorie Mildred (Watson) - June 15, 1931 to June 6, 2013 Passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home in North Bay to be reunited with her sweetheart Stephen “Steve“ (who died unexpectedly in hospital November 15, 2011). God has given us a precious angel. Left to mourn this beloved Mom and wonderful lady are her daughters Christine Henwood (husband Scott) and Janet Coates. Proud grandmother to her dear and much loved grandsons Andrew and Justin Henwood. Was loved deeply by many nieces, nephews and Stephen’s relatives in England. Survived by her sister Irene Schultz and her brother-in-law John Coates. Marjorie was the youngest child of the late John George Watson and Martha (Scheel) Watson and she was their only child to be born in Callander, Ontario. Predeceased by her siblings John Wesley, Eva Grant, Hugh, Violet Brimley, Maybelle (Stuart) Alhusen, and Elmer. A hard working woman with a deep and abiding faith in God and the power of prayer who put her family before herself. She was taken out of school at an early age to care for her mother, and help her father and Elmer with the family farm in Callander. Marjorie supported herself, mother, Elmer and any of her family needing help by working as a sales clerk at Woolworth’s, Hume’s Paint and Wallpaper and a few other businesses. She was the only of her sisters to obtain her driver’s licence. She went to Hamilton briefly to work at Westinghouse with her sister Irene, but returned home to help her mother and Elmer and the farm work. Her last sales position was at Eaton’s in North Bay where she met the love of her life Stephen “Steve” who swept her off her feet. Marjorie cared for her mother in their home prior to her mother’s death. Marjorie was shy, but her laughter, hugs, phone calls, stories and tremendous love will be missed beyond words. The furry girl cats Missy and Zoe miss their constant companion. Everyone who met Marjorie loved her elegant fashion style and manner (“she reminds me of the Queen”), and how she put people at ease with her terrific humour. A wonder with flowers and food she was the heart of her family and extended family and friends. Janet thanks the paramedics and police whose care and compassion were exceptional and truly appreciated. Our thanks to our friends and family for supporting us. We love you Mom and we know you loved us. We’re glad you’re with Dad and God, we only wish you could have stayed with us a while longer. Family will receive friends at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, June 9th, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, June 10th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. If desired donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or an animal rescue (Petsave or All Heart Pet Rescue) would be appreciated.
