Obituary of Margaret Jean Skidmore

SKIDMORE, Jean (nee Nelson) January 30 1928-April 26, 2013 Margaret Jean Skidmore of Brower, passed away peacefully on Friday April 26 in North Bay Regional Hospital. The same week Jean, a master gardener, was planting pansies at her new home in Callander with Judy. Jean had just visited Glen’s sugar bush in Huntsville where she boiled sap with him. Jean is survived by daughters Judy (Philip Hearn) of Callander, Jane Fox of Cochrane, and son Glen (Beth Checkley) of Huntsville; grandchildren Graham (Luana), Lynn (Naim) , Amy (Eric) , Hayley, greatgrandaughter Eve; brothers Ted (Joan), Lorne (Edith) and Ralph of Cochrane and sister Ethel Paterick of Kenora. She is predeceased by parents Enoch and Margaret Nelson; husband Russell of 51 years, son Rodney, sister Sheila and brother Claude. She will be missed also by many nieces and nephews and friends. Jean was very active in community organizations for over 50 years in Brower and Cochrane in addition to being a wonderful cook, gardener and homemaker. Jean held many positions in the Women’s Institute, and the Anglican Church Women. She extended her bookkeeping skills from the family business to the community associations. Thank you to Dr. Terry Rotondo who went beyond the call of duty for Jean. Her care workers in Callander were outstanding in helping her heal, especially Sherri. Rev. Kwari, Chaplain Richard Smith and Edith Belair brought her peace. Jeans ashes will be placed beside her husband Russell in Birchill cemetery in Brower, where they spent many happy years, together in their family and business life. A memorial service at Birchill Cemetery in Brower will be held Saturday June 15 at 3.30, where Jean will be placed next to Russell and their son Rodney. A lunch will follow at her nephew George Skidmore’s in Cochrane. There will be a memorial service Saturday May 18 in at St Peter’s Anglican in Callander with acquaintance Rev John Stennett. A lunch will follow at daughter Judy’s in Callander. Donations would be appreciated in Jean’s memory to Archbishop Anderson Memorial Church in Cochrane.
