Obituary of Joan Evelyn Major
Joan Evlyn Major (nee McCullough)
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our Mother and Nanny, Joan Major (McCullough) on Thursday March 14, 2013 in her 83rd year at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital. After a long battle with emphysema Joan passed away with as much courage and grace as she lived her life. Joan was the only child of her late parents Ethel (nee Harper) and Clarence “Mac” McCullough (formerly of North Bay). She was the beloved mother and mother-in-law of Keely-Ann & Bob Lewis of Callander and Kara-Lee & Wayne Miller of Orillia. She was the cherished nanny and best friend of her grandaughter Karlynn (Bethune) and her husband Calvin Houle. Joan will be missed by her cousins and “Facetime Buddies” Lorraine and Bob Ferguson of Arnprior. Joan continued to hold a special place in her heart for Karlynn’s dad, Mike Bethune of North Bay. A long time North Bay resident, Joan worked as a Dental Assistant for 47 years. She will be remembered most as a lady who lived her life with style, grace and tremendous determination. At Joan’s request, a memorial to celebrate her life will be held in the spring at her daughter’s home in Callander. If desired, donations to the Lung Association or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Our family would like to thank Dr Tillmann of Orillia and Dr. Lazar of Toronto for the many years of wonderful care they gave to our Mom.
