MILLER – Betty Irene (nee Barber)
January 13, 1923 – December 30, 2012
Our Mum died peacefully on Sunday December 30, 2012 after struggling with various illnesses for the past year. Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband Bert and her son Gary. She will be remembered with love by her children Rick & Linda Miller of Callander, & Roxanne Miller & Willard Fewer of Edmonton, & by her grandchildren Caitlin & Joel Opdendries & Matthew Miller-Fewer of Edmonton, & Randy Miller of Sooke, B.C., & by her many friends and extended family in England, the U.S, New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta & British Columbia. Betty proudly served in the RAF during WWII. A War Bride, she and Bert were married in England in 1945. A dedicated wife and mother Betty, the “jitterbug queen”, was a talented scrabble and bridge player, enjoyed swimming and a good argument. Artistic, she expressed her creativity through oil painting and costume design. In keeping with her wishes no visitation or funeral services will be held. Cremation has taken place and a grave side interment service will be held in the spring, date to be confirmed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home and the interment details will be posted on their website when available (www.martynfh.com). If desired donations in Betty’s name to the Children’s Wish Foundation, or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Remember Betty with a smile when you smell the first flowers of spring; collect seashells on a Florida beach; savour a mouthful of chocolate; watch a sunset over the water; sip a glass of white wine; buy a new pair of shoes; go out dancing on New Year’s eve; cuddle a new born baby; eat the last shrimp on the platter; or see the cherry blossoms in Victoria. Betty would tell you to “Send flowers to someone you love, give them a hug, and take them out to lunch often!”
