Obituary of Jeanne Marie Lavoie

LAVOIE (THOMAS), Jean – July 6, 1924 – December 15, 2012. After a lot of living in a wonderful life, Jean quietly slipped away at the Mattawa Hospital to meet the new morning and to begin another journey. Our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend will be sadly missed but we knew that she was ready, that it was time and she had grown weary as her body began to fail. Born Marie Jeanne Chayer, in Chisholm Township (Chiswick) to Joseph Chayer and Caroline (nee Martel), one of 13 children, and, step-sister to 11 children previously born to Joseph Chayer and Zourilla (nee Labrecque). Predeceased by 22 siblings, by husband William David Thomas (Swede), and by daughter Debbie Reid. Survived by dear sister Audrey Curtis (Ron), Leamington; sons Bob Thomas (Janice), Goulais River, and Larry Thomas (Marlene), North Bay; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews, and dearest friend Lilliane Lefebvre and husband Bob, Mattawa. Also predeceased by second husband Romeo Lavoie. Sincere thanks are extended to the staff of the Algonquin Nursing Home, Mattawa, nursing staff at Mattawa Hospital, and Dr. Clint Redhead. Cremation has taken place and a gathering for interment will be held at date yet to-be-determined. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Martyn-Sloan “Mattawa Chapel”, McConnell Street, Mattawa. A memorial service will take place at St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church, Mattawa Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion hall, Hurdman Street, Mattawa. In lieu of flowers, it was Jean’s wish that donations be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 254, Mattawa, or St. Alban’s Anglican Church Special Funds, Mattawa. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Martyn-Sloan “Mattawa Chapel”. For further information contact: www.martynfh.com
