Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Leppan
Mary Elizabeth Leppan
October 5, 1924 to September 8, 2012
We know Mary would want us to say her goodbyes to all the cherished family, friends and neighbours who filled her long and satisfying life, and who each had a unique place in her heart. Mary is survived by Norm, her husband of 69 years, her children, Nancy and Sandra, and her grandchildren, Brynn and Liam.
Mary lived an expansive, generous life, enjoying the blessings of the present while delighting in her many vivid memories of the past. She often said she wanted to stick around a while longer to see how some things turned out, but she was particularly grateful to have lived long enough to see her grandchildren grow into such interesting and loving adults.
Mary was known for her prodigious memory. Even newspapers, historians and libraries consulted her for details no one else remembered. We know we face years ahead of thinking, “I’d better ask Mary about that.”
Her family and friends will forever be grateful to Mum/Grandma/Mary for her wisdom, her loyalty and support, her curiosity and love of books, her unfailing good cheer, and the prism of love through which she saw us and heard us.
In her memory, donations to the North Bay Food Bank would be appreciated. However, Mary would be even more pleased if you gave that same donation to someone who could really use it right now.
There is a saying that when an elderly person dies, a library burns down. This has never been more true than with Mary Leppan.
