Obituary of Robert James Millar
Peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the age of 91 years. For sixty three years Robert was the devoted and beloved husband of Rita Alice (nee Cooke), who predeceased him in 2006. The proud and loving father of Lee-Ann Smith of Port Elgin, Sharron Day of Hamilton, Wanda Perdue (John) of Ancaster and Robert (Ann) of Iroquois Falls, he will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Lesa (Derrick), Jay, Chris (Jessica), Kimberly, John, Sean, and Claire and his great grandchildren Tanner (Maura), Tatum, Taylor and Samuel. Also survived by his sister Betty Hanna of Ottawa. Robert was a long time employee of the Abitibi Paper Company, starting in the woods department in Iroquois Falls after returning from service in WWII. Forty years later he retired from the company’s Sault Ste. Marie operations as a manager. The Millars raised their family in Iroquois Falls where for many years Robert served as a volunteer firefighter. An outdoorsman, he thoroughly enjoyed time spent at his Nellie Lake cottage and was an avid curler. He was a proud veteran and long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 70, Iroquois Falls. Following his retirement he and Rita moved to North Bay to be closer to their family. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Legion service will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday, June 16, 2012 afternoon at 1:30 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment of his ashes to be in the Abitibi Cemetery, Iroquois Falls. If desired donation to the Veterans UN-NATO Canada Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
