1924-2012 in his 88th year. The family announces with sorrow his death in North Bay, ON on Thursday, February 9th, 2012. Predeceased by his wife Anne (Steele) of North Bay in 1997. Their children Loree (Oy) of Cape Town, South Africa, Ian (Cecile) of North Bay and Heather of King City, ON. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren David and Adam of Edmonton, Geordan of Ottawa and Matthew of Cape Town and a great-granddaughter Jade of Ottawa (as pictured above). George was born on the family farm in Erin TWP, ON His parents George and Margaret had five children, Jean (Webb), Hugh and Gordon of Guelph all deceased. A younger sister Joyce (Thorson) lives in Burnary, B.C. George received his early education in a Rural school, Guelph Collegiate and the Ontario Agricultural College. He enlisted in the R.C.A.F in 1943 and served as a Navigator until his discharge in May 1945. A month later he moved to Northern Ontario and worked for a mining company staking claims. He furthered his education at the Provincial Mining School in Haileybury and joined Inco in Sudbury. After two years he moved on to Ontario Hydro in June 1949 and remained until his retirement in September 1983. He started as a Transmission Line Inspector for two years than transferred to North Eastern Region Line Maintenance Department. In 1961, he moved to the Regional Marketing Department until his retirement. According to George’s wishes, no visitation or service. Cremation to follow. He wishes to be remembered by many friends including those from his golfing and curling days and members of the Branch #23 of the Royal Canadian Legion. A special thank you to the nurses especially Diane of Station 3B of the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to MARTYN FUNERAL HOME.
