I was shocked to learn just now of John''s passing - shocked because I had spoken to him in mid-January, and he was quite upbeat on his outlook. I had contacted John at the request of my brother, Bob. In doing so, Bob told me how highly he regarded John''s manner. As has been earlier commented, John was unfailingly courteous and respectful. Always a pleasure to deal with. Please accept our condolences, Bob having passed in the interim.

I knew John for close to 40 years as a neighbour, our Family Lawyer and a freind. Always a Gentelman and a nice person, who gave extra without being asked. I miss our conversations at the Car Wash and Cottage Dock. It was nice to see how he was enjoying "Cottage Life" on Lake Nipissing. From myself and my brother Tim, who is out of the country, we offer our sincere condolences to John''s family.

Dear Sara, Tom, Cameron, John and Bonnie Our deepest sympathies for the loss of your father and friend. We feel fortunate to have seen John just two weeks ago and I can''t imagine a more loving and satisfying environment than the evening we spent with you. The house was fully of family, relatives, children and dogs; all gathered for a family barbeque. There was laughter, hockey and great food. John was at the center of it all. Dispite his discomfort, he was vibrant in his pleasure of being surrounded by those he loved. These moments give meaning to our time on earth. The love and care he received in his final days were a testament to who he was. Although our encounters with John were few, I will always remember his concern for our team in the Scavanager Hunt at Sara''s wedding. We were in last place and John had the duty of check-in at the carwash. Keeping with protocol, he could not tell us where the hidden artifact was, so he performed a magnificent mime to assisit us in our quest. He was like a proud parent when we located the item and ushered us on our way! I''m sure that John''s absence will leave a big void, but you will always carry him in your hearts. Much love, John, Jeannie, Patty and Family

Dear North Bay Inches, I''''m so used to thinking of Uncle John as Dad''''s younger brother - you know, the dashing, handsome Inch son - that it doesn''''t seem possible that he could be gone so soon. I will never forget how good it was of him to come all the way to Yellowknife when Mom died; he helped immensely, and his very presence was comforting to us all. And he was there again for us when we lost Adrienne some years later. His quick perception, his sympathetic understanding and deep loyalty to extended family are still felt and remembered. My daughter Robin was just about 4 years old when she met Uncle John at Pinecrest on Temiskaming, and she remembers him vividly as a happy, kind man. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Jennifer, Vince and Robin The Yellowknife Inch/McCormicks

John was my mother''s (Jacquie Tillson Rogers) first cousin - and one of her favourites. He used to visit us fairly often in Winnipeg in the mid-1950s when he was in the RCAF. His visits were always special. He was a very handsome man, particularly in his uniform and a lot of fun, and whenever he came it was an excuse for a party. There were few people that I think that my mother liked as much as Johnny, as she called him. The last time I saw him was at my mother''s funeral in the 70''s, and for that I am truly sorry because he was a lovely man. I am very sorry for your loss, Kate Rogers

There are no words that can express my profound sadness and there are not enough words to describe what a truly wonderful man John was. He was not just my boss, he was my friend. I am truly blessed to have known and worked for him for so many years. He will always have a place in my heart.

If only more people were like John. Smart, funny, ready to lend a hand, community minded, respectful of others and every bit the gentleman. I was acquainted with John as a result of the assistance he provided as a dedicated supporter at election time. His counsel was not only sought, but always welcome. I was saddened to learn of his passing. Rest in peace.

Dear Sara and all of Uncle John''s family, We were truly saddened to hear the news of Uncle John''s passing this morning. We all remember very fondly our time with him and you of our last visit at the cottage reunion. All through my life, I remember Uncle John as a witty and suave gentleman, but with a very personal nature. While I suppose all things come to pass, unfortunately with Uncle John, it was too soon. We are thinking of you all in your time of sorrow. Love, Alex, Sarah, Adam, Conrad and Maddison (the temporary Belgian Inches)

I am speaking for the five McLennan children originally from New Liskeard when I say we all loved John Inch. When he arrived at Pinecrest on Lake Temiskaming everyone was always so happy so see him. He was fun to be around when we knew him as kids and of course as adults. His positive attitude was contagious and he always wanted to know about us. We saw him many times at this old cottage and I thought my Uncle Bill was so lucky to have such a great brother. We will all miss seeing that twinkle in his eyes and we feel a deep sympathy for your family with this loss. Sincerely Deborah, Michael, Lynda, Jamie and Johnny McLennan

John brought his always upbeat personality with him to law school and helped make tolerable what many of us found to be hard work. Even though John returned to his beloved North to practice law, we stayed in touch and shared experiences and memories. Thankfully, John was able to attend our last class reunion in 2007. I introduced John as the Reverend John Inch and asked him to say Grace before dinner. Always obliging, John with his usual good humour, read an invocation of particular significance to Lawyers. We consider ourselves lucky to have had John as a classmate. John was the quintessential gentleman and memories of him will always be with us. Rest in peace dear friend. Tony Camisso, Osgoode Hall Law School Class of ’62.

John hired me to work with him while he was the Provincial Returning Officer. When he retired from that position, he recommended me for the appointment. I will never forget working long days with John and the other members of our Returning Office team. During the late nights, when we were all bone tired, he brought in his Queen albums and we learned to love his favourite band. John inspired the best in people, had a great eense of humour and was a true gentleman.
