Obituary of Roy Elmer Osberg

OSBERG, ROY ELMER August 8, 1933 - October 8, 2010 Every now and then someone comes into our lives to make a difference and leaves an impact on the lives that he has touched. That Special Person - Roy Osberg passed away Friday with his loved ones by his side. Roy loved people. He loved life and he was reluctant to leave those he loved the most behind. He cherished and loved his family first and foremost. He was a loving husband who would do anything for his wife Jean who will miss him greatly and cherish his memory forever. He was especially proud of his three daughters and their husbands: Cathy and Steve Goetz, Pam and Howie Steinberg, Judy and Terry Slattery and his adored grandchildren who always delighted him: Jennifer, Laura, Spencer, Jake, Nicole and Michael. His brother Ed and extended family will miss him dearly. Ed especially will miss their nightly chats. Roy will be remembered for his positive attitude, strength of character, integrity, sense of humour, sharp wit, astute mind, mathematical ability and story telling. Roy was a selfless person who would always walk that extra mile. He was a loved, trusted, and respected friend, an avid sports fan and an exceptional athlete. He was actively involved in a variety of sports including hockey, gymnastics, basketball, curling, tennis, baseball, softball, golf, fishing and hunting. Golf and duplicate bridge became his passion upon retirement where he would enjoy the comradeship of friends. He loved his cottage on Lake Nosbonsing in 'Gods Country' before moving to Lake Nipissing and took great pride in building furniture and renovating for his family. Roy enjoyed his career as a teacher and principal and never compromised his principles. He sought the best for those under his care advocating fair play, doing one's best and having fun on the road to success. Our family will be forever grateful for the many visits from caring friends who comforted him and lifted his spirits. We also wish to thank CCAS, VON, the ParaMed workers, Dr. Carter and his colleagues, the Sudbury Cancer Clinic personnel, the caring nurses on the 4th floor and the palliative care unit at the North Bay General Hospital Scollard site. Roy will always be in our hearts. We love him so. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church on Wednesday at 2 pm. A reception will follow in the church hall. Cremation will take place with interment of ashes at North Bay Union Cemetery. If desired donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences at martynfh.com.
