Obituary of Charles Albert Hansman

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HANSMAN, CHARLES ALBERT 'CHARLIE' At the Empire Terrace Suites on Thursday December 31, 2009. Beloved husband of, Shirley Isabel (nee Cottrill) in his 84th year. Loving father of David and his wife Carol of North Bay, Philip and his wife Rae of Sesekinika, Elisabeth of Vancouver and Heather and her husband Peter Piper of Powassan. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Glen and Erinn Hansman (husband Jamie Martyn), Kristina and Richard Hansman, Kelsey, Jennifer and Bradley Piper and by his great grandchildren Mitchell and Kennedy Martyn. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Edith Hansman and by his sisters Eva Ross and Elizabeth Stackhouse. Charlie had a life full of fun and adventure with his girl Shirley: together they found joy in bird watching, gardening, canoe trips in the French River and Killarney regions, numerous winter skiing trips, sailing on Lake Nipissing, the Great Lakes and the Trent Severn waterway, camper trips across North America, overseas travels to several parts of Europe, the UK, New Zealand, Cuba and Costa Rica. Charlie loved adventure and had a competitive spirit whether on the ski slopes, sailing or at a game of pool. Coming from one of North Bay's founding ski families, Charlie was Ontario All Round Ski Champion in 1947 and a long time director and life member of Laurentian Ski Club. In 2004, he became the oldest person to ever crew in the Wayfarer World Championships (sailing). Charlie was proud of the skiing legacy he and his Dad, Ab Hansman, helped establish in the North Bay region and especially proud being able to ski with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family has no visitations or services planned at this time as they deal with the acute illness of their Mom. Friends and relations are invited to help them celebrate their Dad's life at a gathering to take place in the spring of the year at the Corner Gospel Pentecostal Church near Restoule, Saturday 17 April 2009, 10:30 am. Due to his lifelong joy of nature and birds in particular, donations in memory of Charlie Hansman to "Bird Studies of Canada" or the "Canadian Wildlife Federation" would be appreciated by his family.
