Obituary of Dorothy Joan Setchell

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Joan, September 20th 2017 on a sunny autumn day, with family by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Russel Setchell. Daughter of the late John Clarence and Hazel Madeline (Boyce) and youngest sister of Margaret Gridley and Dennis Horie. She was the cherished mother of Mark (Patsy) of Sturgeon Falls, Eric (Martine) of Red Lake; they where definitely a handful and were always met with her unconditional love! She will be lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren, Ives (Camille) Bigras, Melanie Bigras, Krystyn (Regan) Miller, Amber (Marty) McQuaid, Alannah (Peter) Setchell. Joan was also blessed to have eight great grandchildren: Gabriel, Dominique, Karianne, Jordyn, Maxine, Aibrean and Kylie Joan who will all greatly miss their wonderful Nana. Being born in the Colony of Abitibi Canyon, Joan had great compassion for people, nature and animals. She had an inquisitive mind and loved sharing her knowledge with those around her. She was a great mentor who valued the differences in people without judgement. As per Joan's request there will no service however a small celebration of life will be held in Abitibi Canyon in the Spring so that she and her husband Russ can be eternally joined. Joan was a dedicated volunteer of the Canadian Cancer Society for several decades and prided herself on the support that she and the program could provide to those affected with cancer. In recognition of this, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her honour.
