The family of Viva Lillian Close is sad to announce her passing on
Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the age of 100.
Beloved wife of the late George E. Close (1997) for 58 years.
Predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Lillian Doupe (nee Bawn) of
Camden Twp. Ontario and the late brothers Claude, Arthur (late Maude), and
Robert (late Marion) Doupe.
Also sister-in-law of the late Don Close (Marion) and the late Raymond Campbell (late Vera)
She will always be remembered in the hearts of her daughter, Dorothy
Lillian Motluk (Henry) of Sault Ste Marie and son Brian George Close
(Cindy) of North Bay.
She was blessed to enjoy her grandchildren, Corrine Peacock (Matthew)
Suzanne Frolick (Marty), Megan Straughan (Jeff), Jada Martin (Jamie),
Taylor Chapman (Brendan), and Matthew Close (Mandi).
A special great-grandmother of Andrew and James Peacock, Natalie, Emily
and Jacob Frolick, Ava and Abby Straughan, Kaiden and Ty Martin, Edison
Chapman, and Tanner Close.
Cherished Aunt to the late Gerald (Helen), late Douglas, Rolly (late
Helen), and David (Donna) Campbell, the late Roberta Whitehead (Jim), the
late Peter and Paul Doupe, Judy McCracken (Barry), and
great Aunt to their families.
After moving from Sudbury, many happy years were spent with her
husband on Laurentian Avenue where they enjoyed a special friendship
with lifelong neighbours making it a great place for raising a family. The
next move was to a condo on High Street in North Bay where they made
new friends and enjoyed retirement living.
Prior to moving to Cassellhome, Vi lived with her daughter Dorothy and
son-in-law Henry of Sault Ste. Marie, spending her last few years at their
lakeside home near St Joseph Island. Time was spent together
enjoying the tranquility, watching the birds, and just relaxing in
the sunshine. It was a place where family and friends often gathered.
Her last year was spent back home in North Bay where Brian, her son was able to spend time visiting with her and enjoying her company. The last special event together with friends and family was the celebration of her 100th birthday at Cassellhome.
Many thanks to the special health care workers at Cassellhome for
their compassionate care during her last year.
Vi will be remembered for her quiet, caring and hardworking nature .
Always willing to help others, she spent her life dedicated to caring
for her family.
She had a passion for playing duplicate bridge and was a life long,
dedicated member of Trinity United Church and their UCW.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held in the Fireside Room at Trinity United
Church, North Bay, Ontario, October 16, 2017, at 11 am. Burial service
to follow at Union Cemetery, Golf Club Rd., North Bay, Ontario. Her
ashes will be interred with those of her late husband. Family and
friends may join together for a reception at Trinity United Church
prior to the interment.
