Obituary of Audrey Louise Baillie
Audrey Louise Baillie (nee Sohm) 1934 - 2017
Died peacefully on August 28, 2017 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario surrounded by love.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Burns Baillie, and children David and Bonnie-Lee. Survived by her children Robert & Heather Chisholme Baillie (Zachary, Tyler & Megan), Henry & Heather Baillie-Brown (Henry Jr.), Ed & Jennifer Chalk Baillie (James & Emily).
Audrey was a warm soul known for her lovely sense of humour, a passion for storytelling, her meticulous handiwork (among other things, she was a quilter, a doll maker and a renowned seamstress), her delicious baking, and her genuine kindness.
Prior to losing her sight to Glaucoma, if she wasn’t making school bags or pencil cases for children in Third World countries, she delighted in making greeting cards and sewing toys and clothing for her friends and family.
Audrey was a nurse, a schoolteacher, and an entrepreneur. She was also a wonderful singer, a musician, a painter, and a published author. Not letting anything hold her back, she wrote her book at the age of 81 while she was legally blind. She loved animals and most always rooted for the underdog.
The Baillie Family extends their gratitude to the nurses at the Royal Victoria Hospital who helped make Audrey’s final days peaceful and comfortable, and to the kind staff at Hospice Simcoe. A special thank you to Dr. Michelle Van Walraven.
In lieu of cards or flowers, Audrey’s family encourages friends and family to honour her by making a donation to one of her favourite charities, Operation Smile.
Visitation will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday, August 31st from 11:00 am until the time of the Funeral in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be announced, in Barrie, Ontario. Online condolences at www.martynfh.com
