Murray, you are gone too soon. I know you have been well loved. You were always honourable. What greater legacy can a man have than to be honourable and well loved. May God bless you, and all of those who love you.

Deep condolences to the Northrup family at this most difficult of times. Murray was always so kind to me at the Courthouse. Epitomized what a police officer should be: kind, decent, thoughtful, respectful, and intelligent. Will be missed.

Sincere and heartfelt condolences to Aaron and the Northrup family. Murray was a priceless and irreplaceable resource at the courthouse. It seemed like he knew everyone in town and his input was always greatly appreciated. He was a model of a police officer, treating everyone fairly and with respect. He is dearly missed.

CONSTABLE MURRAY NORTHRUP I lost a good friend of mine today, He went away so soon; I read about it in the newspaper, On Saturday, in the afternoon. Murray Northrup was one of North Bay’s finest, And he was everyone’s favorite cop; Whether they were walking on the street, Or working in a downtown shop! I was acquainted with Murray’s family, With his father and his son; And of course, his wife Diane, Who is a friend of everyone! I remember when they were married, Just a few short years ago; They were soul mates for each other And they loved each other so! Murray served North Bay for many years, And he was in the OPP too; Then he came back to his hometown, It was something he wanted to do! Murray also worked at the Court House And he loved working in ‘plain clothes’; He was Officer of the Court for several years, And he kept everyone on their toes! I remember he asked me to move my truck, Because I was blocking the traffic’s view; Down at First and Fraser streets, It only took a moment or two. He then asked me how I was doing, And if everything was OK; Because he hadn’t seen me for quite some time, Around town, back in the day! Murray would ask how you’re doing, About everybody he would care; He always had time to say hello, And with you, his time he would share! I used to work with Murray’s father, Cal, At Johns-Manville, back in the day; He was a ‘good old boy’ from New Brunswick, Before making his home in North Bay! And then there is Murray’s son Aaron, Murray was proud of him every day; Aaron followed in his father’s footsteps, And is a good cop in his own special way! Whether Murray was wearing his uniform, Or working as a cop in plain clothes; He always did a very good job And excelled in this career that he chose! And Murray was also a sportsman, He played golf whenever he could; Osprey Links was his favorite place, With its greens and its clubhouse and woods! Murray was a very kind person, He was a cop’s cop so they say; He loved his job with the North Bay Police, And he did a good job every day! Murray will arrive at the Pearly Gates, In the blinking of an eye; And St. Peter will be there to greet him, In that big ‘Precinct’ in the sky! And St. Peter will say to Murray, “Have I got a job for you”; “We need a good cop to patrol our gold streets, In a cruiser of red, white and blue”! So if you hear a loud siren And you look up towards the sky; That will be Murray saying hello, From his home in the sweet bye and bye! Bob Bartlett, North Bay, ON
